GREEN BUILDINGS TO CHANGE INDIA’S SKYLINE BY 2010

There will be over 1,000 green buildings dotting the Indian skyline by 2010 saving energy and environment. Already 375 buildings are under construction. Indian industry will also be a key player in the $40-billion green building material business in the world. There will be over 50,000 accredited green professionals in the country to make India a leading player in green building business and technologies.

Indian robots match their global counterparts

The 1st Robo Expo 2008 organized by CII concurrent to the 9th Auto Expo, witnessed the launch of a number of new Robots. The Robo Expo, being held from 10-17 January at the Andhra Pavilion, Pragati Maidan showcases world leaders of Robotics & Automation such as ABB Ltd, Hi-Tech Robotic Systemz, Kuka, Motoman Motherson Robotics Ltd, Panasonic, Precision Automation & Robotics India Ltd (PARI), Rhythmsoft and Rockwell amongst others.

$120-150bn needed by 2012 in energy sector

India’s current level of energy consumption is very low. For the year 2004 – 05, the total annual energy consumption for India is estimated at 572 Mtoe (million tons oil equivalent) and the per capita consumption at 531 kgoe (kilograms oil equivalent). With a target GDP growth rate of 8-10% and an estimated energy elasticity of 0.80, energy requirement is expected to grow at 6.4-8.0%. This would mean a five-fold increased in India’s energy requirement over the next 25 years.
